Altadena is a close-knit community at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Since the 2025 Eaton Fire, many residents have been studying and working from temporary homes while the community rebuilds. Because this course is fully online, you can keep making progress wherever you’re living, with nothing to drive to and no fixed class times.
What’s Inside the EMT Prep Course Online in Altadena California
Emergency medical technician courses move fast, and most of the material rests on three subjects: medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Few students start EMT school knowing them. EMT Prep gives you a strong introduction to these areas and more, so you begin your course with a head start. Think of it as an EMT study guide you work through before class starts. This self-paced program includes:
18 Presentation Videos: Visual learning tailored to key EMT concepts.
Interactive Quizzes: Test your knowledge and retention of the material.
Downloadable Resources: PowerPoint slides and PDF documents for in-depth study.
Exclusive "How to Study" Presentation: We all know we need to study but has anyone ever taught you “how” to study? This presentation will help you maximize your study efficiency and effectiveness.

What an EMT Certification Course Expects on Day One
Every emergency medical technology program moves through a lot of material in the first few weeks. Instructors use medical vocabulary right away, and lessons on the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems build on each other quickly. Students who already know how the body is organized and what common terms mean can focus on skills practice and patient scenarios. EMT Prep gives you that foundation before your EMT certification course begins, so the first weeks feel like review instead of a scramble.
EMT Certification Cost and How to Protect That Investment
Many people who become EMTs don’t stay on the ambulance forever. A common next step is working as an emergency room technician, also called an emergency department technician or ER tech. Hospitals throughout the Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley area often look for applicants with EMT certification for these roles. If that’s your goal, here’s how prep fits in:
Learn the language first. ER teams communicate quickly in medical terms, and EMT Prep helps you build that vocabulary early.
Know your body systems. Strong anatomy and physiology knowledge helps in EMT school and later when you assist nurses and physicians.
Build study habits now. The “How to Study” presentation helps you keep learning through EMT school and into your first healthcare job.
Keep your notes. Lifetime access means you can refresh your knowledge before a hospital interview or skills check.
You can enroll in the course here whenever you’re ready to start.

How EMT Certification Works and Where Prep Fits
EMT certification follows the same basic path in most states. EMT Prep sits at the very start, before you enroll.
Build your foundation. Learn the terminology, anatomy and physiology your course depends on. This is where EMT Prep helps.
Complete an approved EMT program. EMT classes combine lectures with hands-on skills training.
Frequently asked questions
1. Is this an EMT education program?
It’s a prep course, not an EMT program. It teaches the medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology you’ll need before you enroll in a state-approved EMT course. It doesn’t count toward certification.
2. When should I start before my EMT training classes?
About 4 to 6 weeks before your first class works well for most students. That gives you time to finish every lesson without rushing.
3. Who issues EMT certification for Altadena residents?
Altadena is in Los Angeles County, so EMT certification is issued by the LA County EMS Agency after you complete an approved course and pass the required exams. Check current requirements with your program and the agency.
4. Can EMT certification lead to an emergency room technician job?
Yes. Many hospitals hire EMT-certified applicants as ER techs. EMT Prep doesn’t certify you for any role, but it helps you start EMT school with a strong foundation.
5. Can I study if I’m living away from home right now?
Yes. The course is fully online and works on any phone, tablet, or computer, so you can study wherever you’re staying.
6. Do I need a science background?
No. The course starts with the basics and is designed for beginners, including students who haven’t taken a science class in years.
7. What’s included for $99?
18 video lessons, quizzes after each topic, downloadable slides and PDF study guides, and a “How to Study” presentation. It’s a one-time payment with no monthly fees.
8. How long does the course take?
Most students finish in a few weeks with a few study sessions a week. Because it’s self-paced, you can speed up or slow down as needed.
9. How do I know if I need EMT Prep?
Take our free EMT readiness assessment. It takes about 10 minutes. If you score below 80%, we recommend completing EMT Prep before your EMT course starts.
10. Will I keep access after finishing?
Yes. Access never expires, so you can review any lesson during your EMT course or before a job interview.
11. Do I need to take the EMT Prep Course?
Not everyone does. If you’re unsure, take our FREE EMT Readiness Assessment. If you score below 80%, we strongly recommend taking EMT Prep before beginning EMT School.
